The Black Widowling is a stronger variant of the Spiderlings of the lower yard. They are primarily found near full-grown Black Widows in the upper yard, commonly patrolling the areas around them. They can serve as a lethal nuisance when near Black Widow territory.

Behavior[]

Black Widowlings are found in large clusters near full-grown Black Widows. They sometimes will sleep and will do so all at the same time. When awake, they tend to scurry around their spawn areas and not travel very far. They share the same attack as normal Spiderlings, but inflict the Venom effect, which acts like Poison but lasts longer and bypasses Mithradatism.

Interaction with Player[]

Black Widowlings are aggressive to the player when they see them. They also can be spawned by the player when breaking special Web Sacs in the upper yard.

Interaction With Other Creatures[]

Black Widowlings are friendly to Black Widows, and are neutral to every other creature.

Advanced Loot Table[]

This is a more advanced covering of the loot-table of Black Widowling. Each item has an independent chance and count, in which the chance is the chance it can drop and the count is the amount of items that have that chance. If a count larger than 1 is in one section, then each item has an independent chance from one another (EX: Instead of getting say 2 of a resource, you can get 1 with a 70% chance and another with an additional 70% chance). In terms of Stealing, it can take one item from every section of the loot table, so even if a item count is say 5, the player will only steal one from that section.

Creature Loot Tables also tend to have large amounts of 1% items, which is intended to make stealing more rare items harder, as the player is more likely to steal the large amounts of 1% items than a singular 50% item.

Note: For consistency sake, all duplicate categories have a multiplier next to them, but function as unique loot types when say using Stealing.

Item Count Chance
Spider Chunk 1 1%
Web Fiber 5 100%
Black Widow Fang 1 1%

Strategy[]

Black Widowlings should be avoided rather than fighting if possible due to their annoying swarm behavior. If the player needs to fight them, fighting one at a time is recommended. Along with this, use of stabbing or fresh weapons is ill advised. Any heavily upgraded tier 3 weapon that doesn't fall into this category should be effective for killing them. Despite being a fresh weapon, the Mint Staff is arguably the best weapon to use against them; since it attacks in a large area and each hit staggers them, they are effectively stunlocked as long as you keep firing the staff repeatedly. This is especially useful against Widowlings that spawn from destroyed Web Sacs since they will all spawn within the area of effect.

Trivia[]

  • In reality most species of spiders including black widows leave the nest soon after hatching and spiderling black widows don't get their signature hour glass shape until after they have left the nest. So these spiderlings in reality should be no where near their mom but if they're truly recently hatched they should be a pale reddish color.
  • While in reality Black Widows do not eat their Spiderlings, they do eat their mates which is why the model in-game is based off of the male Black Widow.
