The Green Shield Bug is a more powerful variant of the Stinkbug found throughout the upper yard in mostly sparse or secluded areas. They can be a lethal threat due to their plentiful gas attacks and large health pool.

Behavior[]

Due to the secluded nature of most of its spawn locations, the Green Shield Bug simply wanders about their areas and occasionally releases fumes. They have a very similar behavior and attack pattern when compared to regular Stinkbugs, but they prefer to use gas attacks more than bites and have a backwards leap move which they can use to maintain distance from the player while allowing their gas clouds to take full effect. As such, Gas Mask durability is a serious concern when confronting this insect. Two possible countermeasures without sacrificing your helmet are Gastro Goo or the Toxicology Badge.

Interactions With Player[]

Green Shield Bugs are aggressive to the player and will attempt to kill them on sight.

Interactions With Other Creatures[]

Green Shield Bugs are mostly passive to all Creatures that walk up to it. In the odd case it manages to gas a patrolling creature such as a Fire Worker Ant, the creature may start to attack the Green Shield Bug. They only naturally encounter other creatures near the Wheelbarrow, as its 3 other spawns are extremely secluded.

Advanced Loot Table[]

This is a more advanced covering of the loot-table of Green Shield Bug. Each item has an independent chance and count, in which the chance is the chance it can drop and the count is the amount of items that have that chance. If a count larger than 1 is in one section, then each item has an independent chance from one another (EX: Instead of getting say 2 of a resource, you can get 1 with a 70% chance and another with an additional 70% chance). In terms of Stealing, it can take one item from every section of the loot table, so even if a item count is say 5, the player will only steal one from that section.

Creature Loot Tables also tend to have large amounts of 1% items, which is intended to make stealing more rare items harder, as the player is more likely to steal the large amounts of 1% items than a singular 50% item.

Note: For consistency sake, all duplicate categories have a multiplier next to them, but function as unique loot types when say using Stealing.

Strategy[]

Green Shield Bugs are both deadly and hardy, boasting the second highest health of any non-boss creature currently in game. When confronting it, it is generally recommended to have upgraded tier 3 weapons and tier 3 armor, with the best weapon being the Mint Mace. Along with this, multiple Gas Mask or Gastro Goo are necessary due to the potency of the gasses it releases and potential DOT (damage over time) stacking due to overlapping clouds. The player should also focus on its tells and be prepared to block its occasional bite in order to avoid unnecessary damage. A strategy for cheesing the ones on the compost box: the two non-respawnable green shield bugs can be lured to the corner with range and effectively killed without taking damage. This is done by shooting them with a ranged weapon, luring them to the corner closest to the JavaMatic and jumping off the edge to the bricks below (The ivy also works). They won't leap down and will stand still while being shot.

Trivia[]

  • Green Shield Bugs, despite being a reskin of Stinkbugs, do actually have a surprising resemblance to their real life counterpart. This is likely to be because stink bugs and shield bugs both belong to the Pentatomidae family, and so the terms are somewhat interchangeable.
  • Real-life green shield bugs are endemic to Europe and do not exist in North America, where the game is set. The in-game Green Shield Bug is more likely to be a green stink bug, which is sometimes also referred to as a green shield bug. However, the appearance of the Green Shield Bug appears to be based on the European bug, as it has a dark brown spot on the back of the shell which the American bug lacks.
  • Upon the PTS for the Into The Wood update, Green Shield Bugs were the only creature to have a high enough amount of health for the health bar to turn pink.
  • On the Green Shield Bugs creature card it is listed that it drops Stinkbug Parts which is incorrect since it was changed to drop Green Shield Bug Parts in the Bugs Strike Back Update.
