The Red Worker Ant is a neutral creature found in the central biomes of the Backyard around the Red Anthill and Old Anthill. It's slightly smaller than a Red Soldier Ant, making it about the same size as the player. It also has lower health and does less damage than a Red Soldier Ant. A Red Worker Ant is easily distinguished by its small mandibles, skinny legs, black eyes, and thinner body.

Behavior[]

Worker Ants move somewhat quickly on the ground, wandering aimlessly as they hunt smaller creatures and for large foods. Worker Ants pick up food items and sometimes carry them deep into the ant hill. Some ants will also crowd around large foods to collect its bits to bring to the anthill such as other foods, and will also collect Acorn Bits. Some permanently remain in the ant hill while others roam. If the number of Soldier Ants is reduced enough, Red Worker Ants lay Red Ant Eggs in the deeper chambers of the Westerly Anthill. When attacking, they have a normal bite, and a more charged bite that is easier to avoid, but does more damage.

Interaction With Player[]

The Worker Ant is neutral to the player. It defends itself if the player has angered a Red Worker or Soldier Ant and continues attacking the player after being initially attacked unless it has very little health, in which it will retreat. A very weak Worker Ant disengages from the player, turns, and flees, sometimes turning around. It will also attack if the player is in view or nearby when taking or trashing Red Ant Eggs. When attacking, it uses its normal attack behavior. If a Red Worker Ant is killed in one hit, no additional Worker Ants will become angry, even if they see it happen. While neutral to the player, Worker Ants chirp and act curious towards a nearby player. Although neutral, they sometimes attempt to steal stored food from Storage Baskets and Storage Chests, or Roasting Spits and Jerky Racks. Similarly, they steal food from unclaimed backpacks of fallen players. An icon is displayed on the container and a sound plays while the theft is occurring. When the player attacks them, they may run back to their anthills and signal other Soldier Ants to invade the area they were attacked.

Interaction With Other Creatures[]

Worker Ants are passive to Red Soldier Ant who defend them when threatened by other creatures. Worker Ants actively hunt Weevils for food and bring their meat to their anthills. They also will signal Soldier Ants to invade areas where they may have been attacked by the player, and will also lay Red Ant Eggs in their hills that produce other ants. They will attack all Creatures that attack other Worker Ants and Soldier Ants. They are hostile towards fire ants, but only rarely do they meet.

Advanced Loot Table[]

This is a more advanced covering of the loot-table of Red Worker Ant. Each item has an independent chance and count, in which the chance is the chance it can drop and the count is the amount of items that have that chance. If a count larger than 1 is in one section, then each item has an independent chance from one another (EX: Instead of getting say 2 of a resource, you can get 1 with a 70% chance and another with an additional 70% chance). In terms of Stealing, it can take one item from every section of the loot table, so even if a item count is say 5, the player will only steal one from that section.

Creature Loot Tables also tend to have large amounts of 1% items, which is intended to make stealing more rare items harder, as the player is more likely to steal the large amounts of 1% items than a singular 50% item.

Note: For consistency sake, all duplicate categories have a multiplier next to them, but function as unique loot types when say using Stealing.

Strategy[]

A single Red Worker Ant can be easily disposed of with a Pebblet Spear or even fists and no armor, but a group can be deadly to the player. Tackling larger clusters such as the ones near the Red Anthill should preferably not be done until later in the game, and obtaining Red Ant Parts should come from loner ants around the Grasslands. Large clusters should be taken on with a slightly upgraded tier 2 weapon such as the Red Ant Club or Stinger Spear, and with a tier 2 armor set.
