The Sickly Roly Poly is a creature that can be found in the western portion of the Grasslands area, primarily around the Trash Heap and behind the Sandbox. They can be challenging to kill if fought unprepared. They have a stronger version located in the upper yard called the Roly Poly.

Behavior[]

The Sickly Roly Poly simply wanders its area with no specific goal in mind. It does not attack other insects but will when threatened. The Sickly Roly Poly has more health than creatures such as a Ladybug. When in combat, the Sickly Roly Poly possesses 4 attacking moves: a normal bite, a long side swipe, a bounce attack where it curls up and launches itself into the air, and a rolling charge. When the Roly Poly rolls, it will continue to roll until it either reaches its limit, or the target turns in a way in which the Sickly Roly Poly can't reach them. The Roly Poly can also heal itself. It will roll into a ball but remain motionless, and proceed to recover about a quarter of its health pool. During this time it is immune to damage and thus the player can recover stamina whilst waiting for the Roly Poly to straighten out. There is no way to stop the Roly Poly healing up, but a Critical Hit or a Stagger can force them out the ball, but they will continue to heal as if they were still in the ball.

Interaction With The Player[]

Sickly Roly Polys behave towards the player the same way they would to any other creature attacking them, chasing and attacking them via the same attacks.

Interactions With Other Creatures[]

Sickly Roly Polys don't have any specific interactions with any certain creatures and will become aggressive if attacked by any.

Advanced Loot Table[]

This is a more advanced covering of the loot-table of Sickly Roly Poly. Each item has an independent chance and count, in which the chance is the chance it can drop and the count is the amount of items that have that chance. If a count larger than 1 is in one section, then each item has an independent chance from one another (EX: Instead of getting say 2 of a resource, you can get 1 with a 70% chance and another with an additional 70% chance). In terms of Stealing, it can take one item from every section of the loot table, so even if a item count is say 5, the player will only steal one from that section.

Creature Loot Tables also tend to have large amounts of 1% items, which is intended to make stealing more rare items harder, as the player is more likely to steal the large amounts of 1% items than a singular 50% item.

Note: For consistency sake, all duplicate categories have a multiplier next to them, but function as unique loot types when say using Stealing.

Strategy[]

The Sickly Roly Poly is a very dangerous creature and is recommended to be faced with defensive armor like Ladybug Armor or Black Ant Armor. Along with this, a strongly upgraded Red Ant Club or Insect Hammer are the suggested weapon. Its bite is easier to block, but its roll should be avoided by perfect blocking it at the start or running out of the way. Its healing move can be interrupted (it won't stop the healing though,) by staggering it while it is balled up, so use a weapon that is better at staggering during that move, such as an axe with the Chopper Mutation active, but this is ill advised as they will still keep their massive damage reduction and passive healing for the same amount of time while now being able to attack.

Killing Sickly Roly Polys is not necessarily recommended, with normal Roly Polys being a tougher fight, but giving more Roly Poly Parts and much more Tough Gunk then usual, as well as giving Roly Poly Shells.

Trivia[]

  • Sickly Roly Polys used to drop sickly roly poly parts and shells before the normal Roly Polys were added.
  • Multiple notes in update patch notes seems to hint that the Roly Polys are sickly due to being in close proximity to the Trash Heap.
    • Despite this, none of their spawns are directly inside the biome.
  • The Sickly Roly Poly is one of three creatures that have a stun animation with no dazed effects above their head.
