The Stinkbug is a hostile creature found primarily in the outskirts of the Grasslands biome. It is considerably larger than the player and other creatures. It has an upper yard variant called the Green Shield Bug.
Behavior[]
Stinkbugs stay on the ground and do not roam, preferring to lounge with other Stinkbugs. If a perceived threat is spotted, they move closer to attack. Stinkbugs move slowly and are easily outrun. When engaged, their eyes glow. They bite threats while at close range. Stinkbugs may also passively release gas into the surrounding area. While preparing to release the gas, they raise their back-ends. The gas deals wide damage over time and there is a short period before gas can be spread again. They have two attacks, a bite and a lunge and gas attack combo that will damage the player and release gas.
Interaction With Player[]
The Stinkbug is hostile toward the player. When the player is spotted, it charges until within distance and may release gas into the surrounding area or continue charging. It bites while at close range. It will not flee when attacked.
Interaction With Other Creatures[]
Stinkbugs are neutral toward all other creatures. The Stinkbugs gas clouds cause many creatures to defend themselves and become hostile towards it. Stinkbugs will fight off Orb Weavers and Wolf Spiders when they get attacked first.
Advanced Loot Table[]
This is a more advanced covering of the loot-table of Stinkbug. Each item has an independent chance and count, in which the chance is the chance it can drop and the count is the amount of items that have that chance. If a count larger than 1 is in one section, then each item has an independent chance from one another (EX: Instead of getting say 2 of a resource, you can get 1 with a 70% chance and another with an additional 70% chance). In terms of Stealing, it can take one item from every section of the loot table, so even if a item count is say 5, the player will only steal one from that section.
Creature Loot Tables also tend to have large amounts of 1% items, which is intended to make stealing more rare items harder, as the player is more likely to steal the large amounts of 1% items than a singular 50% item.
Note: For consistency sake, all duplicate categories have a multiplier next to them, but function as unique loot types when say using Stealing.

Strategy[]
Stinkbugs are a formidable threat and may be difficult to kill. The player should have tier 2 weapons and armor and can also use a Gas Mask or Gastro Goo to combat the gas. If not, the player must avoid the gas at all cost to avoid a quick and hefty death. Their bite attacks can easily be blocked and their lunge can also be blocked, but will produce gas when they land. A swarm of Stinkbugs should be handled with some form of gas protection to avoid their massive gas attacks.
Trivia[]
- The Stinkbug was originally going to be the main aggressive creature of the Haze.
- When a Stinkbug wakes up after sleeping, it has the chance to stretch and then proceed to fart.
- The developers have said that this is intentional as they "wake up unhappy".
- The Stinkbug in game appears to be based off Brown Marmorated Stinkbugs.
- Real-life stinkbugs do not release a gas cloud, they instead spray a colourless, volatile liquid. This liquid is harmless, unlike the in-game Stinkbug's gas attack.
- Despite their name and the teens' negative reaction to the Stinkbug's smell, real-life stinkbugs often don't smell unpleasant. The smell they release has been variously described as grassy, earthy, coriander-like or almond-like.
